Biella and PBS enter into strategic partnership in Poland and for other Eastern European markets
Brügg/Biel/Bienne, 2 July 2013 - Biella-Neher Holding Ltd (Biella Group), the largest European manufacturer of folders and ring binders and PBS Holding AG, which is one of Europe's leading office supplies companies, have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement in Poland and for other Eastern European markets. Both companies will bring their respective strengths to the partnership.
On 1 July 2013, Biella-Neher Holding Ltd and its subsidiary company, Biella Polska Sp. z o.o., entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with PBS Holding AG and its Polish subsidiary, PBS Connect Sp. z o.o., which extends to Poland and further Eastern European markets. After a preparatory phase to make sure the logistics and administration are in place, the cooperation should be fully functional with effect from 29 July 2013.
Since the acquisition of the German Falken Group last year, the Biella Group has become the largest European manufacturer of folders and ring binders, making it one of the leading producers of office supplies. In recent years, Biella has concentrated with consistent strategic success on its manufacturing activities. Its wholesale business, previously primarily in Eastern Europe, has gradually been transferred to local dealerships. Until recently, servicing the Polish market was an exception in that Biella Polska was both a sales and marketing company for products manufactured by the Biella Group and an office supplies wholesaler well-established in the market.
The PBS Group has grown significantly in recent years - just like Biella. Today it is one of the most important European office supplies companies and is well-represented in the Central European markets of Germany and Austria. A further focus of the PBS Group is Eastern Europe, where up to now it has been well represented in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and other countries. Its other aims extend to strengthening its position in these markets and the development of the important Polish market.
The cooperation agreement that has been reached will therefore lead to ideal mutual strategic expansion, to which both companies will bring their respective strengths – Biella as a manufacturer and PBS as a wholesaler. In the wake of this agreement, Biella Polska will transfer the wholesale business to PBS Connect Polska and simultaneously grant it a licence to use the "Donau" brand name in Poland and other Eastern European countries. This means that PBS Connect Polska will become the leading wholesale company in the Polish market.
The private label business, in other words the marketing of products manufactured within the Biella Group under the own brand name of large customers, will remain with Biella Polska. In return, PBS Connect Polska will conclude a long-term supply contract with Biella Polska for the exclusive supply of products manufactured within the Biella Group.
The implementation of the steps required for this cooperation agreement will take place gradually over the next few weeks and with the sound judgement required.
Biella Group – with the acquisition of the Falcon Group one of Europe’s most important and powerful supplier of office products – runs production sites in Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Poland, Romania and the UK, has logistics-centres in Brügg / Biel (CH), Wiener Neustadt (AT),) and Enkhuizen (NL) and a distribution network all over Europe. The Group employs on an annual average app.1.100 employees.
The Biella-Neher Holding Ltd. is listed on the Berne Stock Exchange BX Berne eXchange (symbol: BLLN, Security: 151948s, ISIN: CH0001519484).
