Brügg/Biel – 21/01/2016 – In view of the general downturn in the market for traditional office supplies Biella is – as already announced in its 2015 half-year report – streamlining its European organisational structures. As part of this, the production plant in Hyde (UK) and the sales office in Austria are to be closed. The functions of these will be transferred to Biella's largest site in Peitz, Germany, as a result of which significant cost synergies will be achieved.
In view of the general market decline in traditional office supplies, it is imperative to continuously and systematically optimise cost structures. It was for this reason that Biella announced the future restructuring of group companies in its 2015 half-year report. In line with this, Biella will be stopping its local production in the UK in the first quarter of this year and will be transferring this to its main plant in Peitz (Germany). In addition, it will be streamlining how it serves the Austrian market by disbanding its local sales office and in future sales of private label products will be effected through the EU sales office (Biella-Falken GmbH, Germany) and sales of individual products through Switzerland. Overall around 40 jobs will be affected by the restructuring.
January saw the successful launch of the new business unit Biella SimplyFind, with which Biella is expanding its product and service portfolio into the digital world (Biella reported on this in detail in a press release published on 19 January 2016).
